Custom Transformers Earthrise Voyager Class Megatron – Saved from Yellowing | In-Depth Restoration Look
As featured in my Yellowing Plastic Syndrome deep-dive video (definitely check it out if you want to understand what causes plastic yellowing and photo degradation in action figures), this Megatron project started as a necessary rescue mission. Unfortunately, my original figure had suffered severe photo degradation, leaving repainting as the only real solution to restore it.
Once I began the repaint process, I pushed the project into a premium restoration upgrade. I completely reworked Megatron’s face to add depth and character, since the factory finish felt far too flat. I added red paint detailing to his abs (which were surprisingly unpainted from the factory wth...), enhanced the front lower ab, and then went all-in on panel lining. From the feet to the arms, torso, and back sections, extensive panel detailing was applied to bring out sculpt definition and mechanical realism.
In tank mode, the detailing continued with painted windows, headlights, turret elements, rivets, and additional mechanical accents. I actually had to hold myself back — this could have easily turned into a full museum-level custom instead of a high-end restoration upgrade.
That level of full customization is coming in future builds… so stay tuned.
